Week 5 Housebreaking Schedule

The main challenge with Fudge right now is that he is very active and does not like to settle on his own (at least for a decent period of time).  So he needs to be supervised in his pen, or be trained, or in a Sit on the Dog or Place when out and about. I usually allow for free indoor time after he has gone out for 30-45 minutes.   I feel safe if he is in my sight (so not out of the room).  I use the command "let's go" to get him back if he leaves the room, OR if I think he needs to go out then I follow him downstairs to let him out.

This is going to change as he grows.     Right now, since 8/15, his poop has decreased a lot, but this may not be true as he grows and his body changes.  The number of times to go out will probably be decreased by 2 or 3 during his nap times.  Right now, he is not going on all of the time, but it's new, so I have not gotten rid of any.  Also, not every pee and poop is going to come when you expect it to, but this is a good loose guide to go by:

6:00 AM - 6:30 AM Fudge used to have to go at this time, but has been able to sleep in from about 8/12 with one exception, where he woke up needing to go at 6:30AM.  As his body continues to develop, this may become a time again.

(1) 7:15 AM - 7:20 AM  Immediate pee and poop.  Then he goes back in his pen so I can eat and get ready for the day.

8:00 AM FEED

NOTE:  IF YOU RELEASE HIM FROM HIS PEN (IF THAT IS WHERE YOU ARE FEEDING HIM) YOU MIGHT AS WELL LET HIM OUT RIGHT AWAY.

(2) 9:30 AM Sometimes a poop and pee.  (although he has not needed to on 8/16 and 8/17)

(3) 10:30 AM A probable pee

After that, this is one of the Nap times I sometimes use until 12:00 PM

(4) 11:45 AM Probable Pee (he is usually restless and hungry by this time

11:50 AM FEED

12:00 PM If I did not do the 10:35 AM nap, then this becomes a nap until 1:40PM (or so, if I check in and he is still napping, I do not wake him up.

(6) 1:30 PM Possible pee (if not napping)

(7) 2:00 PM Probable poop and pee

(8) 3:30 PM Probable pee

After that, this is a possible nap time.  If he is out and gets more antsy than usual, you can let him out earlier.

(9) 4:45 PM Probably pee

(10) 4:50 PM FEED

(11) 6:00 PM Probably pee and poop (although he has not needed to on 8/15 &8/16)

NOTE: NO WATER AFTER 6 PM.

(12) 7:30 PM If he did not poop at 6:00 PM, probably pee and poop (although he has not needed to on 8/15 and 8/16)

This is when he is usually sleepy and content in his pen or crate

(13) 9:30 PM Probably pee (possible poop if he didn't in the previous times)

(14) 11:00 PM Probably pee and poop (poop at this time has been consistent if he did not go before)  *** when we began with him, he could not make it through the night without this time.  So we needed to keep this if we didn't want a 3 AM barking puppy to be let out.
